Jet compilation

November 19th, 2008

I decided it was time that all the videos I have of Jet from late summer onwards should be put up, she’s such a good girl and I really miss her when I’m at university. Until watching this I never appreciated how super she is :). So, Wooo (;-) lol Woo) for Jetleigh….oops I mean Jetly! Random music choice, couldn’t decide on anything so it’s just what was on my iTunes at the time. Enjoy Jet flyballing at Rotherham, the Summer Champs and Home Farm, and some agility at training.

Pics from South Durham

November 3rd, 2008

Forgot to post these last time, here are a few pics that Cat took at South Durham of Jet at agility. I think she was too quick for the camera lol as a lot of them were blurred (more likely because she is black, but I’ll keep thinking the former). Thanks so much for these Cat, though I have no idea what is going on in the weaves, she has no feet on the floor. She also demonstrates how awesome her contacts were that day.

Flying? through the weaves….

Such a happy girl, though she spent all morning thinking she might be at flyball so made an incredible amount of noise and dragged me across the field.

We didn’t do brilliantly results wise, but Jet had some nice runs with tiny mistakes. Her contacts were really good, I was so pleased. She had a nice clear in pairs with Dylan, and then a clear in 1-3 jumping. It was a very easy course so a huge majority of the class went clear but we ended up 21st, beating a few Borderstorms and lots of grade 3s. I was especially pleased as we lost a second or more on a very wide turn - not bad as we were just under 2s behind the winner. Go Jet!

No Newark now, which is sad but it gives the dogs a rest until Donny in December and the fab 4 are reunited to try and smash 18.48!

Long time no post….

October 28th, 2008

Well, it has been ages since I posted, mainly because I have no internet at my house yet and it is still being sorted out. Woe. However it means I have done lots of work in the past few weeks and only get in the library once or twice to download powerpoints to take home with me.

Our house is really nice actually, and my housemates are too. Only problem is it’s absolutely freezing and we’re too stingy to put any heating on so just make do with lots of layers and hot water bottles.

The last time I posted was Sutton Fields, and not an awful lot has happened since then. We went to Redcar where Sarah and I stayed the night in a creepy B&B at the seaside, it was very funny though and Jet enjoyed it as she was lucky enough to visit the beach with her friends. We came 4th in div.1 running a new best time of 18.59s with Norah, Jet, Floss and George.

The following weekend was Doncaster, and the dogs were all storming to run another best time of 18.48s with a sizeable change on both mine and Jane’s part. Surely faster times must be on the horizon for us! We claimed 4th place again, in a tough division one and had some close racing with some very good teams.

Last weekend we were at Rotherham, the first indoor marquee tournament ever to be held in the UK. I wasn’t sure what it would be like, but it was actually really good and all the dogs seemed to like it. Jet was storming, as was Floss and they both threw out some awesome times. Watching the videos back, and timing (yes, I am sad) they were both doing under 4.5s which is brilliant. We managed to beat Wilmslow, Wire Sparks and in a nail biter we even beat Crazy Chieftains (seeded on 17.55!). Shock horror, we ended up 4th in div.1 again. We only ran 18.87s but that is quite impressive considering we had super sup Kim up from the second team rather than flying carpet Norah, who was on her holidays.

Jet picked up her flyball dog advanced award (5,000points) that was gained in August, and is already on 6000points with Sutton Fields, Red Car, Doncaster and Rotherham all still to go online. I’m hoping she’ll have her 10,000 next year, but I’m more bothered about her times for now :)

Anyway, you can see videos of Jet in action on Leanne’s website www.undermybed.co.uk, she runs 2nd and can be seen in both the “false starts” video and the “barney ‘owlers” video.

Sutton Fields Flyball

September 22nd, 2008

We were at the Live Wires tournament this weekend in Sutton Fields. It was like a normal July weekend and the sun shone both days, it was a nice change!

Saturday:
We had one team in on Saturday,
Night ‘Owlers: Mollie, Buffy, Chip, Dylan and Stripe seeded on 21.71
They pulled out all the stops and won every race, giving them 1st place!!!
Both Dylan and Chip went in like professionals to their first open competitions and weren’t phased by anything (….even Mollie trying to do tandem flyball!). Chip got himself 125points, so only needs 75 from next weekend and Dylan got his FD.
A best time of 20.98s I think, which is an aweso,me result all round.

Jet did a couple of runs in pairs with Miko and Nichol-  we managed just over 9s to win pairs. So, another 1st place Very Happy. Miko normally runs with Cheshire Set, and is lead dog, so we let him go first and Jet went second - I’ve never changed into Miko before!

Sunday
Barney ‘Owlers: Norah, Lolly, Jet, Kim, George…declared on a time of 19.62s
After a disaster of Kim all of a sudden not being able to come and boxload, we had to enlist Nichol to do it with Maxine on the line.
These guys didn’t have a problem in this div, and won paws down! 1st place Very Happy Woo!!
All the dogs were absolute maniacs….I was very proud to watch my Jetly overtake any dogs she was against, bless her she was a maniac. It was nice to see how much stamina she now has, she didn’t suffer with the heat and even with pairs at the end of Sunday she was flying.

Seeing as Chip and Dylan had come along for the ride on Sunday, and had nothing to do they had a bash at singles and threw out some very impressive times….all down to the boxloader of course Wink
Dylan - 4.81s
Chip - 4.50s
Both over full height….none of this 7″ starters singles. I think this put Chip 2nd in starters singles, he has a lot more to come as Jane said he wasn’t running a anywhere near as fast as he did in training before the champs, and he has developed a strange new boxturn which is wasting a bit of time too - though he’s coming back over the jumps so we are very pleased!

Not happy with singles alone, these two got together to do starters pairs producing a time of 9.88s.

A very tired Kim and Jet decided they couldn’t have their brothers show them how it was done, so had a quick bash at pairs and did 9.81s - not bad after a day of racing and a very busy weekend. Annoyingly, the winning multibreed pair Sunday was 9.76 - so we just needed a little bit and we’d have won. Not to worry though, both of them have won the multibreed pairs in the past.

As if to top the weekend off Very Happy ‘Owlers won the Lucy Locket trophy for the highest % of club wins over the weekend! ‘Owlers won 83% of their races, woohoo!

A very good weekend Very Happy

Here are a couple of albums I have just uploaded, firstly here are some photos from my placements….I’ll be adding more:

From PCEMS Pics

It does all look very muddy at the farm but there were horrendous amounts of rain, and they tried to keep the cows as clean as possible; especially in the parlour. None of that mud ends up on your milk lol! Also featuring Taffy and Molly, the farm dogs….well, the whole album was Taffy because he was just so sweet.

I started my second week of stables placements this week. It was hectic, and I’m shattered already, but on the way home we took the dogs for a good run on the field. Seeing as I had my camera for report pics, I took some of the dogs:

From Jet & Chip Walkies Sept 2008

As you can see, Jet got covered in spit too,…

Barney ‘Owlers

Here are a couple of flyball videos of Jet and her team from Home Farm and the British/National/BFA/Summer Champs…or whatever they are called these days!

Stuff

September 2nd, 2008

Well, first off I was playing on my camera and found some pics I’d taken of Jetly when I was on the computer last week. These are her “diversion tactics” for when she thinks I should be off here, and playing with her:

Photobucket

Also featuring the ASDA ball - it really is magic lol!

Anyway, a quick video from agility - not Jet at her best but a couple of people asked so there we go. Thanks to Emma for filming :D. I also took Jet back to basics on the weaves after she started popping the last pole, so as the channel weaves were still up I did a bit with her on there and she was smashing.

Jet the harness slayer…

August 30th, 2008

As mention previously, Jet took it upon herself to break her harness at Drax, not once but twice! Not only in the ring but seconds before she was due to run, and if it hadn’t been for Andrea’s false start, then I’d have no idea what we’d have done. Anyway, last week I fixed the harness and took it to training on Wednesday and shock-horror, she broke it again.

Her craziness on the line has to be seen to be believed, but she’s not a particularly big dog and her harness breaking skills are more that she bounces up and down so much her harness becomes unlooped and all the webbing comes out of the fittings. As you can see from the Drax photos, she now has a blue padded harness - she’s actually running much better with it than the Rogz one, yet she never managed to break that one.

Anyway, I decided it was unlikely she’d get any fatter (she better not do!) or that she’d lose a lot of weight (believe it or not she has very little on her) so we just stitched it up on the sewing machine and had done with it.

We had training this morning and she was brill, bless her and the industrial strength stitching held up.  Seeing as she’s not running at Home Farm (and neither is George) we decided it would be a good opportunity to get Jane’s changes into Jet right for Sutton Fields. I can’t wait for Sutton now, though it’s just a shame Sarah isn’t there as we wanted to do Jet/Floss superpairs! Nichol has asked if I’d like to do it with Miko, so I think we may take up the offer, even though they have never run together before. :)

Seeming to have a distinct lack of height dogs now, due to Little Archie the schnauzer’s tissue damage and Amber off continuing her agility career, Jane and co persuaded me that we should get Whisky going. He should make a nice 11″ height dog I think and although he won’t be blisteringly fast, he’ll be a welcome addition to the lower teams if we can get him going. So, at the grand old age of 9, Whisky has started flyball haha. He was actually smashing and I was really pleased with him. At first he only wanted the critter toy, so we did recalls over 4 jumps with that. Then he ditched the critter for a tennis ball (great) and we got him going up the jumps for the ball and back again. Hopefully he’ll do well on Wednesday too.

Poppy had one session too, seeming much better after her chiro session and having been told I could give her a go. She ran with “husband” Sam, who she got very giddy about for some reason. She was great though not impressed with the little jumps so much, she can’t quite decide whether to run over them or to jump them. She enjoyed herself anyway.

Chip was great too, and did some training in two lanes. He didn’t bother about what was in the other lane, although decided to change which way he turns every so often. He likes to keep us on our toes I think.

It was strange having 4 dogs doing it, chaos is probably a better word….or hectic. I don’t know how Sarah copes with running 3 dogs herself!

We’ve got training again on Wednesday. I’m going to go home with Jane so she can drop me off at my dairy farm in the morning, she goes past it on the way to work so it gives my Mum a morning off.

August 29th, 2008

Here’s a link to my picasa album with a few photos of Jet from Drax. If you click the magnifying glass you can see the maniac in her full glory….spit and all!

Many thanks to Tyne Tailwaggers for the pics, they’re awesome!!

From Jet at Drax

and I really like this pic of her! Going to work some photoshop magic and get it printed because she looks so focussed.

Keep an eye out for Devil-Dog Jet with her horns for ears and crazy face!

Meh.

August 28th, 2008

I really can’t be bothered at the moment, with early morning starts at the Dairy Farm and a general lackage of stuff to do from about 9am - 1pm there, I am in such a bad mood. Hopefully tomorrow I will take my camera, and also try and take some report notes while the farmer and family are bottling milk. All the staff are lovely, it’s just a bit tough when there is very little to do once milking has done and they are doing their bit with the dairy.

However, there are two very nice sheepdogs called Molly and Taffy. They are allowed to roam around all day and are very well behaved, most of the farms I’ve been on have to have their dogs tied up all day or in runs so it was nice for them. Taffy is a welsh sheepdog, and is the first time I’ve seen one in the flesh. He’s quite a bit smaller than a normal collie, and quite stumpy legged - he’s very noisy and doesn’t stalk/herd quite like a collie, he tends to scuttle around a lot and stay very upright. He’s obsessed with playing with anything, and is trained to help move the cows. He reminds me a lot of Leanne’s Mollie actually - going to try and grab a photo while I’m taking them for my report. They said he’d work for anyone, so I took him down to the field with me to take the cows (and bull!!) and he was a super star. He gets a bit over enthusiastic and tries to get in front of them (which means them coming back up the hill…O.o.) but I kept calling him off and we were sorted in no time. By the end of it, he decided to reward himself with a cooling off in the water trough….nice.

Last night we had the dogs checked by the chiro. Miraculously, Pops behaved in the end after several Serenum tablets during the day, a muzzle and lots of grovelling. Her spine was fine but her back leg muscles were very tight and one bit of her leg in particularly sore. She is moving much better today and her “Get Over” herbs arrived from CSJ today, anything is worth a try bless her.

I decided also to get Jet checked, after 18months of full time flyballing and the way she pushes through the weaves at agility, she must have something that needs tweaking! However she didn’t and was one of the only dogs not needing anything doing. She wanted to wiggle at everyone though and have a cuddle with Kath which didn’t help.

Anyway, back to the dairy farm tomorrow…..
