As mention previously, Jet took it upon herself to break her harness at Drax, not once but twice! Not only in the ring but seconds before she was due to run, and if it hadn’t been for Andrea’s false start, then I’d have no idea what we’d have done. Anyway, last week I fixed the harness and took it to training on Wednesday and shock-horror, she broke it again.
Her craziness on the line has to be seen to be believed, but she’s not a particularly big dog and her harness breaking skills are more that she bounces up and down so much her harness becomes unlooped and all the webbing comes out of the fittings. As you can see from the Drax photos, she now has a blue padded harness - she’s actually running much better with it than the Rogz one, yet she never managed to break that one.
Anyway, I decided it was unlikely she’d get any fatter (she better not do!) or that she’d lose a lot of weight (believe it or not she has very little on her) so we just stitched it up on the sewing machine and had done with it.
We had training this morning and she was brill, bless her and the industrial strength stitching held up. Seeing as she’s not running at Home Farm (and neither is George) we decided it would be a good opportunity to get Jane’s changes into Jet right for Sutton Fields. I can’t wait for Sutton now, though it’s just a shame Sarah isn’t there as we wanted to do Jet/Floss superpairs! Nichol has asked if I’d like to do it with Miko, so I think we may take up the offer, even though they have never run together before.
Seeming to have a distinct lack of height dogs now, due to Little Archie the schnauzer’s tissue damage and Amber off continuing her agility career, Jane and co persuaded me that we should get Whisky going. He should make a nice 11″ height dog I think and although he won’t be blisteringly fast, he’ll be a welcome addition to the lower teams if we can get him going. So, at the grand old age of 9, Whisky has started flyball haha. He was actually smashing and I was really pleased with him. At first he only wanted the critter toy, so we did recalls over 4 jumps with that. Then he ditched the critter for a tennis ball (great) and we got him going up the jumps for the ball and back again. Hopefully he’ll do well on Wednesday too.
Poppy had one session too, seeming much better after her chiro session and having been told I could give her a go. She ran with “husband” Sam, who she got very giddy about for some reason. She was great though not impressed with the little jumps so much, she can’t quite decide whether to run over them or to jump them. She enjoyed herself anyway.
Chip was great too, and did some training in two lanes. He didn’t bother about what was in the other lane, although decided to change which way he turns every so often. He likes to keep us on our toes I think.
It was strange having 4 dogs doing it, chaos is probably a better word….or hectic. I don’t know how Sarah copes with running 3 dogs herself!
We’ve got training again on Wednesday. I’m going to go home with Jane so she can drop me off at my dairy farm in the morning, she goes past it on the way to work so it gives my Mum a morning off.
